Another Friday night in Chelmsford and another record-breaking performance by the Glamorgan batsmen as, once again, they clinched a last-ball thriller against the Essex Eagles.
Last year it was a century from Colin Ingram and a last-ball six, high over backward point by Craig Meschede, that saw the Welsh county complete a record-breaking win as they successfully chased a target of 220. This year it was Chris Cooke who took centre-stage as with the doughty efforts of Timm van der Gugten the pair added 61 from last 26 balls to see Glamorgan home by two wickets, with Cook, who struck 60 off 29 balls, seeing his side home by swatting the wayward Neil Wagner for four to mid-wicket.
Their stand for the ninth wicket was the Club’s best in Twenty20 cricket, eclipsing the previous – and relatively modest – best of 33 by Stewart Walters and Dean Cosker against Northamptonshire at Cardiff in 2012. Their fantastic efforts were also just eight runs short of the best-ever in the short format, set by Somerset’s Corey Anderson and Josh Davey who added 69 against Surrey at The Oval in 2017.
