STAT ATTACK: Dean Cosker - International Match Referee

21 Oct 2025 | Cricket

2025 has been a red-letter year for Dean Cosker – the former Glamorgan left-arm spinner and member of the Club’s County Championship-winning team of 1997 – as during the year, he has become the first Glamorgan player to act as a Match Referee in international cricket. (writes Andrew Hignell)

During May, Dean was the Match Referee in the One-Day International series between Ireland and the West Indies before during October, acting in this capacity in the One-Day series between Bangladesh and the West Indies. The second match of the series also entered the record books as the West Indies bowled 50 overs of spin against their hosts as the contest ended in a tied before the men from the Caribbean won the Super Over.

Fifteen former Glamorgan players have stood as umpires in first-class cricket in the UK - John Bell, Bill Bestwick, Nigel Cowley, Dai Davies (Test), Emrys Davies (Test), Ismail Dawood, David Evans (Test), Joe Hills, Allan Jones, Kevin Lyons, Len Muncer, John Steele, Jimmy Stone, Steve Malone and Alex Wharf (Test)

Dai Davies, Emrys Davies, David Evans and, more recently Alex Wharf have also stood as umpires in Test cricket
