Glamorgan’s emphatic victory at Canterbury was their fifth best by the margin of an innings in the Club’s history and their best by an innings for 72 years. (writes Andrew Hignell)
Glamorgan’s largest victory in all first-class cricket by an innings came at The Parks in 2000 when they defeated Oxford University by an innings and 203 runs. As the list of Championship victories below shows, it was the Welsh county’s largest margin of victory by an innings in a Championship match since 22 June 1953 when they defeated Somerset inside two days at Swansea. Their victory by an innings 72 years ago at St.Helen's was set up by 141 by Gilbert Parkhouse before Don Shepherd, then a fast bowler, completed a six-wicket match haul plus a five-wicket haul for off-spinner Jim McConnon.

Innings and 152 runs v Kent at Swansea, 1937.
Their previous largest victory by an innings against Kent had come on 25 August 1967 at Sophia Gardens when the Welsh county won by an innings and 157 runs. It came after Kent had been dismissed on the opening day for a mere 66 with left-arm pace bowler Jeff Jones claiming 6/27. Glamorgan duly replied with 353-9dec with captain Tony Lewis making 77 and Alan Jones 60, before Don Shepherd, in off-cutter mode, claimed 6/60 to steer the side to victory.
The stunning victory at Canterbury was also the first time since September 2022 - and the victory over Derbyshire at Sophia Gardens - that the Welsh county had won after enforcing the follow-on in a Championship match.
