Glamorgan's spectacular victory against Northamptonshire - achieved in mid-afternoon - by an innings and 143 runs was their best by this margin in Championship cricket since 1967.

In April 2007 Glamorgan Oxford UCCE at The Parks by an innings and 145 runs, but in terms of Championship cricket, their emphatic win today was their best victory by an innings in the premier county competition since 1967 when Glamorgan defeated Kent at Sophia Gardens by an innings and 157 runs with Jeff Jones claiming 6/27 in Kent’s first innings and Don Shepherd taking 6/60 in their second.

Their best in county games still remains the Welsh county’s win by an Innings and 190 runs against Essex at Brentwood in their Championship-winning summer of 1948 when Emrys Davies and Willie Jones each scored double-hundreds as the visiting batsmen toyed with the home attack and bamboozled the fielders by calling to each other in Welsh!

However, today's success was the best-ever by this margin against Northants surpassing the victory by an innings and 109 runs at Stradey Park, Llanelli in 1935. In addition, it was their first success by an innings when playing away to the East Midlands side since 1937 when Glamorgan were victorious at Peterborough by an innings and 54 runs
