22 Jul 2022 | Cricket

Colin Ingram and Sam Northeast came close to breaking one of the Club’s all-time batting records this afternoon at Grace Road as they shared a third wicket stand of 306 (writes Andrew Hignell) .

Their efforts beat Glamorgan’s third wicket record against Leicestershire set in 1995 by Steve James and Matthew Maynard who added 242 at Grace Road. They also came within eight runs of breaking the all-time Club record for the third wicket set by Emrys Davies and Willie Jones who added 313 against Essex at Brentwood in 1948 in a match where, according to folklore, the two Welsh-speakers spoke in their native tongue to confuse the home fielders.

As the list below shows, it was the joint eighth highest in the Club’s history. It was also the second triple-hundred stand in which Colin has been involved this year and the first-ever season when two triple-century stands have been recorded in first-class cricket.
