4 Aug 2022 |

2022 produced another remarkable and record-breaking game on Thursday 4 August as Colin Ingram and Tom Cullen added a record 186 in 28 overs for the sixth wicket in Glamorgan’s stunning three-wicket victory over the Kent Spitfires in the Royal London Cup game at Sophia Gardens (writes Andrew Hignell)

Their outstanding efforts surpassed the previous best for the sixth wicket for the Club in List A cricket, made by Matthew Maynard and Otis Gibson who added 136 against Warwickshire in the Benson and Hedges Cup encounter at the same ground in 1996. As the list below shows, there have only been six higher partnerships against first-class opposition for Glamorgan in List A cricket:

234 by CB Cooke and WT Root for the 4th wicket v Gloucestershire at Bristol, 2019 (RLC)
212 by CA Ingram and WD Bragg for the 3rd wicket v Kent at Swansea, 2017 (RLC)
204 by JH Kallis and MP Maynard for the 3rd wicket v Surrey at Pontypridd, 1999 (NL)
199 by AN Petersen and GP Rees for the 1st wicket v Lancashire at Colwyn Bay, 2011 (CB40)
194* by H Morris and IVA Richards for the 3rd wicket v Derbyshire at Pontypridd, 1992 (SL)
187 by JA Hopkins and MP Maynard for the 3rd wicket v Notts at Sophia Gardens, 1988 (B&H)
186 by CA Ingram and TN Cullen for the 6th wicket v Kent at Sophia Gardens, 2022 (RLC)

Each batter made their highest scores in List A cricket with, as the list below shows, Colin’s 155 being the sixth highest List A score for the Club and the best-ever for the Welsh county at the Sophia Gardens ground:

JA Rudolph 169* v Sussex at Hove 2014 (ODC)
IVA Richards 162 v Oxfordshire at Swansea, 1993 (NWT)
CB Cooke 161 v Gloucestershire at Bristol, 2019 (RLC)
MTG Elliott 156 v Dorset at Bournemouth, 2000 (NWT)
JH Kallis 155* v Surrey at Pontypridd, 1999 (NL)
CA Ingram 155 v Kent at Sophia Gardens, 2022 (RLC)
H Morris 154* v Staffordshire at Sophia Gardens, 1989 (NWT)

Glamorgan’s total of 308-7 was their joint sixth highest winning total batting second in a List A contest, as listed below, and their second highest-ever against Kent and at the Cardiff ground:

348-8 v Sussex at Hove, 2019 (RLC)
334-7 v Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl, 2017 (RLC)
330-3 v Sussex at Hove, 2014 (ODC)
321-7 v Kent at Sophia Gardens, 2015 (RLC)
314-2 v British Universities at Cambridge, 1996 (B&H)
308-7 v Surrey at Guildford, 2014 (ODC)
308-7 v Kent at Sophia Gardens, 2022 (RLC)

The match aggregate of 612 runs was the third highest in a List A game at Cardiff, with the two highest also involving Kent – 638 in their Royal London Cup game in 2015 and the 623 in the Cheltenham and Gloucester encounter -in 2006.
