Kiran Carlson scored the earliest-ever Championship hundred in a season for Glamorgan as he made 106 on the second day of the Welsh county’s match against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens. (writes Andrew Hignell)
Kiran entered the history books yesterday (7 April) as he struck his second Championship hundred against the West Country side, thereby beating by four days Marnus Labuschagne’s record of having scored a hundred on 11 April against Northamptonshire at Sophia Gardens in 2019 – a match which had seen the Australian mark his Championship debut with a hundred and coincidentally also saw Kiran and Billy Root (who also posted a century yesterday against Gloucestershire) complete hundreds later in the day.
It was Kiran’s fifth successive hundred in the four-day competition at the Cardiff ground and also his first hundred in the Championship since 13 July, 2021 when he made an unbeaten 170 against Northamptonshire. It was not, though, the earliest-ever first-class hundred for the Welsh county as Jacques Rudolph scored 142 on 29 March 2017 against Cardiff MCCU at the Cardiff ground.
