STAT ATTACK - Reflections on 2017 #2

21 Oct 2017 | Cricket
This is the second of a series of features during the Autumn and early Winter looking back on some of the highpoints and personal milestones achieved during the 2017 season by Glamorgan players. With the first instalment having looked at some of the remarkable batting achievements of Colin Ingram in white ball cricket, this article celebrates his outstanding achievements with Chris Cooke in the Specsavers County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at The SSE SWALEC.

The pair steadfastly added 226 in 83.1 overs to save the game, with Colin completing a Glamorgan-best score of 155*. His stalwart efforts in batting for 590 minutes and facing 427 balls meant that he played one of the longest innings in the Club’s history. In terms of balls faced, that record remains with Steve James who batted for 670 minutes against Nottinghamshire at Colwyn Bay in 1999 as he made an unbeaten 259 having faced 546 balls.

In terms of the longest by time, that record stands with Mike Powell who faced 479 deliveries whilst batting for 667 minutes against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham in 2006 as he made 299 to become the second-highest scorer in the Club’s history. Steve James, in making his record-breaking 309* against Sussex at Colwyn Bay in 2000 also batted longer than Colin did at Cardiff, with Steve occupying the crease for 601 minutes and facing 491 balls.

As far as their unbroken partnership of 226 was concerned, it was the best for the sixth wicket for Glamorgan against Nottinghamshire surpassing the efforts of Peter Walker and Don Ward who added 138 at the Rodney Parade ground in Newport in 1961. It was also the highest for that wicket by Glamorgan at the Cardiff ground beating the 218 added by Robert Croft and Jonathan Hughes against Leicestershire in 2004.

Further details about Colin’s outstanding season will appear in the 2018 Glamorgan Yearbook, which is due to be published next March.
