STAT ATTACK - Root's 99* helps Glamorgan to their sixth highest chase

Billy Root became only the third batter in Glamorgan’s history to score an unbeaten 99, and the first for seventy years as he steered the Welsh county to a stunning three-wicket victory against Worcestershire on the final day of their contest in the LV=Insurance County Championship at New Road.(writes Andrew Hignell)

Only two other batters have previously made 99* for Glmaorgan in first-class cricket - Arnold Dyson against Gloucestershire at the Rodney Parade ground in Newport in 1939 and Gilbert Parkhouse who achieved the feat at the same ground in 1952 against Essex. Andy Balbirnie also ended on 99* in a T20 match against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens during 2020.

As the list below shows, Glamorgan’s successful run chase this afternoon was also the sixth highest in their history, and their best for ten years:
