Sam Northeast’s record-breaking season continued as he made an unbeaten 177 against Worcestershire at New Road in Glamorgan’s final group match in the Royal London Cup and in the space of exactly a month, he has now scored the Club's highest individual score in both first-class and List A cricket . (writes Andrew Hignell)
On 23 July Sam made his monumental 410* in the Championship match at Grace Road and, now today, 23 August, he made 177* in the Royal LOndon Cup game at New Road and, as the list below shows, Sam’s career-best innings, from 148 balls duly broke Jacques Rudolph’s previous Club record as the highest for Glamorgan in List A cricket:
SA Northeast - 177* v Worcestershire at Worcester, 2022
JA Rudolph - 169* v Sussex at Hove 2014
IVA Richards - 162 v Oxfordshire at Swansea, 1993
CB Cooke – 161 v Gloucestershire at Bristol, 2019
MTG Elliott – 156 v Dorset at Bournemouth, 2000
JH Kallis - 155*v Surrey at Pontypridd, 1999
Sam’s tally of 26 boundaries – 22 four and 4 sixes was also a new record breaking the 22 (4x6, 18x4) recorded by Jimmy Maher against Essex at Sophia Gardens in the National League match in 2003.
His stand of 245 in 28.1 overs with Billy Root was also the highest-ever for the fourth wicket in List A cricket surpassing the previous best of 234 between Chris Cooke and Billy Root against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 2019.
Glamorgan’s total of 356-3 was also their third highest in List A cricket and only surpassed by their total of 429 against Surrey at The Oval in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy game in 2002, and
373-7 against Bedfordshire at Sophia Gardens in the NatWest Trophy game in 1998. Their previous highest in List A cricket against Worcestershire had been 305-6 in the National League game at Sophia Gardens in 2001
