Ruaidhri Smith’s career-best figures of 4/6 from four overs against Middlesex at Richmond helped Glamorgan to an emphatic seven-wicket victory, besides re-writing several of the Club’s bowling records in Twenty20 cricket.
Overall, they were the fourth-best for the Welsh county in the sort form of the game and only surpassed by Graham Wagg’s 5/14 against Worcestershire at New Road in 2013, Ryan Watkins’ 5/16 against Gloucestershire at Cardiff in 2009, and Michael Hogan’s 5/17 also against Gloucestershire at Cardiff in 2017.
They were though the most economical four-wicket figures for Glamorgan surpassing the previous best of 4/14 by Timm van der Gugten’s against Surrey at The Kia Oval, 2016.
In terms of runs conceded during a four-over quota, no previous Glamorgan bowler has completed their full spell without conceding more runs with the previous most economical being Robert Croft’s analysis of 4-1-10-1 against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 2011.
As far as the domestic competition is concerned, Somerset’s Arul Suppiah took 6/5 against Glamorgan at Cardiff in 2011, whilst the most economical four over spells have been Alfonso Thomas’ return of 4-2-5-2 for Somerset against Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl in 2010, as well as Danny Briggs’ 4-0-5-3 for Hampshire against Kent at Canterbury , also in 2010.
The most economical figures in all T20 cricket remain Chris Morris’ 4-3-2- for the Lions against the Cape Cobras in Johannesburg in 2014, whilst Chanaka Welegedera took 4-2-2-4 in T20 cricket in Sri Lanka during 2015. Bangladesh’s Shakib-al-Hasan also took 6/6 in the Caribbean Premier League at Bridgetown in 2013.
