Glamorgan begin their campaign in the LV=County Championship with a visit to The Kia Oval to meet Surrey in a contest which is scheduled to start at 11am on Sunday, April 6th.
It is also a landmark game for Mark Wallace as the Glamorgan captain will be leading out his side in what, for the wicket-keeper, will be his 200th consecutive Championship appearance for the Welsh county. He is the fourth person to reach this milestone for Glamorgan, with Mark following in the footsteps of Emrys Davies who played in 216 consecutive games between 1931 and 1939, as well as Haydn Davies - another great Glamorgan wicket-keeper - who appeared in 282 consecutive Championship matches between 1947 and 1957. The Club record for consecutive appearances is held by Arnold Dyson, with the opening batsman playing in 305 successive games for the Welsh county between 1930 and 1947.
Glamorgan's most recent visit to the South London ground for a County Championship match was in 2011 and, like the last six games between the two teams, the contest ended in a draw, with Gareth Rees making 126. The opening batsman was also in fine fettle in the match at The Oval in September 2009 when Glamorgan's batsmen had a field day at The Oval, amassing 702/8 declared - the second highest total in the Club's history - as four of the visiting side completed centuries. Rees and Mark Cosgrove shared a scintillating opening stand of 315, before Jim Allenby and Mark Wallace each added hundreds themselves as they put Surrey's attack to the sword with a record sixth wicket stand of 240.
Glamorgan's most recent success at The Oval in a County Championship match came over a decade ago in August 2001 when vibrant half-centuries from Ian Thomas and Michael Powell saw the Welsh county to a three-wicket victory on the final afternoon.
