Glamorgan launch their campaign in the Vitality Blast with back-to-back away games, starting with a visit to Hove to meet the Sussex Sharks on Thursday, May 26, followed on Friday night by a match against Surrey at The Oval. (writes Andrew Hignell).

The Sharks beat Glamorgan last season by 33 runs in their match at Cardiff and, as the list below shows, the Welsh county have not beaten the Sharks in T20 cricket on Sussex soil since 2017.

July 15th, 2014 at Hove - Sussex won by 5 wickets
July 10th, 2015 at Hove - Sussex won by 8 wickets
July 28th, 2016 at Hove - No Result
July 9th, 2017 at Arundel - Glamorgan won by 18 runs
Aug 14th, 2018 at Hove - Sussex won by 98 runs
Aug 6th, 2019 at Hove - Sussex won by 9 wickets
June 22nd, 2021 at Hove - Match Abandoned

In fact, Glamorgan’s victory in 2017 is their soil win on Sussex soil when Colin Ingram completed a 46 ball hundred – the fastest-ever in white-ball cricket for the Welsh county – with his record-breaking efforts coming during a third wicket stand of 130 with Jacques Rudolph which laid the foundations of an 18-run victory.

The Welsh county have a decent record in T20 matches at The Oval, having won six of their eight contests at Surrey’s headquarters. However, as the list below shows, Surrey have won their last two T20 games against Glamorgan at The Oval:

May 15th, 2015 at The Oval - Glamorgan won by 25 runs
May 26th, 2016 at The Oval - Glamorgan won by 8 wickets
August 4th, 2017 at The Oval - Glamorgan won by 6 runs
July 31st, 2018 at The Oval - Glamorgan won by 4 wickets
July 25th, 2019 at The Oval - Surrey won by 97 runs
June 14th, 2021 at The Oval - Surrey by 5 wickets

Amongst the highlights of Glamorgan’s previous T20 matches at The Oval was the 25-run victory in 2015 with Colin Ingram blasting an imperious 91. This remains the highest individual score for Glamorgan in all T20 matches against Surrey, and allowed them to post a competition-best total of 240-3: a mammoth total and in stark contrast to their more modest total of 44 in their visit to The Oval in 2019. As far as bowling performances are concerned, Glamorgan’s best-ever efforts came from Timm van der Gugten who in 2016 returned the analysis on 4/14 on his T20 debut for the Welsh county.
