The best-ever T20 season ?

The current batch of games form a pivotal phase for Glamorgan in the Nat West T20 Blast, with the Welsh county meeting the three other teams in the top four of the South Group with the sequence of games also seeing Jacques Rudolph’s team poised to create new records for the most number of wins in a season in the competition.

Glamorgan’s 46-run victory over the Sussex Sharks on Thursday evening at Cardiff , followed by their nine-wicket  demolition of Middlesex at Richmond means that the team have equalled the Club record for the most number of wins in a season, with their seven wins equalling their efforts of 2015.

In terms of progression in the competition, 2004 has been Glamorgan’s best season, with the Welsh county reaching Finals Day at Edgbaston after winning four of their five group games before beating Warwickshire in the quarter-final at Sophia Gardens.

Glamorgan reached the last eight of the competition  again in 2008 – a summer when the competition was decimated by rain, with the Welsh county progressing after winning just three of their group games after Yorkshire had been disqualified after fielding an unregistered player in Azeem Rafiq,

2014 saw Glamorgan reach the quarter-finals again, after six victories, plus a thrilling tie against Kent. Their opponents were the Lancashire Lightning with the game at Old Trafford seeing Glamorgan agonisingly lose by just one run.

If Glamorgan continue in winning ways in 2016 a home quarter-final, plus another appearance at Finals Day could be their rewards for some outstanding performances, both collectively and individually in white ball cricket.
