The efforts were fantastic all day - Maynard

Head coach Matt Maynard praised his side's effort throughout their drawn match against Nottinghamshire in the LV= County Championship match at Sophia Gardens.

The Welsh county were on top for much of the game but failed to bowl out the visitors on the final day as the pitch flattened under the Cardiff sun.

"The efforts were fantastic all day, fair play to the skipper he tried different combinations and created some half-chances, but we were amazed the wicket didn't do a bit more and their batsmen really got stuck in," said Maynard.

“But if we keep playing as we are, we have Leicestershire up next week, if we keep the ball in the same areas and if we bat with the same partnerships because that is what we have done really well the last three games.

“We have had a real big partnership at some stage in the game and that sets those games up. If we keep doing the same thing, keep showing the same energy in the field as well, keep backing the bowlers up, that is all we can ask for.”

With four matches of the LV= County Championship campaign being played in September, the team will lose Michael Neser as he returns to Queensland and Colin Ingram when he joins the Caribbean Premier League.

As his side looks to push for promotion to Division One, Maynard is hoping the Club will bring in reinforcements with one name set to be announced shortly.

"There's still five games to go, a lot of points up for grabs, but a lot will be determined by our (overseas player) recruitment for September when we lose Michael Neser, who's been fantastic, and Colin Ingram who had a pre-existing contract with the CPL (Caribbean Premier League).

"We might try to look for something slightly different, I believe one announcement will be made fairly shortly which is great news for us going into September, the other is still a fair way away."
