Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad for the LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Sophia Gardens.
Seamer Timm van der Gugten is back after a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Timm suffered a hamstring tear in May which ruled him out of the Vitality Blast but played in Glamorgan's recent victory over Gloucestershire in the 2nd XI Championship.
Wicket-keeper Chris Cooke also returns to the red-ball squad after recovering from a calf injury he picked up against Sussex. Cooke missed the LV= County Championship win against Worcestershire but returned for the final two Vitality Blast matches against Essex Eagles and Kent Spitfires.
After the victory against Worcestershire, the Welsh county sit in 3rd place in Division Two of the LV= County Championship on 123 points, while the visitors are in first on 146 points.
View from the camp - Colin Ingram
The mood in the camp is really good, over the last couple of years the group seem to have found a good method in four-day cricket and confidence is high, so expecting bug things.
We’ve had two hard-fought wins and just to be part of that has been great, I’ve enjoyed some time in the middle and found some good rhythm. I’ve found a few things I missed in the first part of my career so I’m trying to hold onto those.
Notts are a big side and top of the table, we’ve got a lot of confidence after the last couple of weeks and the wins we’ve had, so another fresh start, a good challenge and we’ll take them head on.
Promotion is huge for any club, it would be a massive achievement but we can’t start thinking about those things yet, we’ll just attack the next four days against a good side.
Head-to-head – Glamorgan vs Nottinghamshire
The two teams met earlier this season during mid-April at Trent Bridge with Glamorgan winning by seven wickets. Since then, the East Midlands team have beaten both Durham and Leicestershire by an innings, as well as Derbyshire by ten wickets and Worcestershire by five wickets to give themselves a 23-point lead over Glamorgan at the top of the table.
Nottinghamshire last visited Sophia Gardens during 2017 for a game which ended all square after Chris Cooke and Colin Ingram batted all day in an unbroken and match-saving stand of 226 in 83.1 overs after Glamorgan had followed-on having been dismissed for just 187 in reply to the visitors first innings total of 448 in which both Jake Libby and Rikki Wessels scored hundreds.
The game in 2017 had been Nottinghamshire’s first to Cardiff since September 2005 when they won by eight wickets, thanks to a century from Darren Bicknell and miserly bowling performances by Greg Smith and Mark Ealham, although Alex Wharf struck a defiant century for Glamorgan.
