Cricket Wales U17s boys missed out on honours in the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) one-day final. Having beaten Essex to secure their place in the final, they faced powerful Lancashire at Kibworth in Leicestershire.
Lancashire reached 200-9, with Keiran Carlson (Cardiff and Vale) taking 3-32. In reply, Wales were all-out for 176, with opener Joe Voke (Gwent) top-scorer on 42.
Previously, in the two-day competition, they lost to Surrey by 8 runs at Pentyrch, reaching 330 all-out, in reply to the visitors 338.
Jack Thorp-Yon (Gwent) took 3-20 and was also top batsman with 96. Joe Voke and Connor Brown (Cardiff and Vale) both scored 62, while bowler Lukas Carey took 3-44.
Wales boys defeated Cheshire at Crewe Vagrants CC, scoring 344-7 in the first innings and 202 all-out in the second. Cheshire reached 238-7 and 123-7 in reply.
Alistair Andrady (North East Wales) scored 125 in the first innings, including 11 fours and six sixes, while Scott Thomas (West Glamorgan) was top scorer in the second innings with 43.
Among the bowlers, Keiran Carlson took 3-27 in the first innings and Steffan Roberts (Mid Glamorgan) 2-30 in the second.
But their match against Somerset at Lansdowne was abandoned because of rain, after Wales had scored 168-8 in their 40 overs. Opener Joe Voke was top scorer with 40 from 81 balls. And their match against Dorset at Stalbridge was called off, again due to rain, without a ball bowled.
We can reflect on some real successes by our various age-group teams this season, said Cricket Wales performance manager John Derrick. The U17s not only reached the one-day final, but the semi-final of the ECB two-day championship, which is a fantastic achievement.
