Walkers & Talkers: New Dates

20 Feb 2025 | Community

After a fantastic first Walkers & Talkers session at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to announce more dates as the series continues.

Former Cardiff City FC goalkeeper and current Glamorgan coach, Mark Walton, will be the next guest at Walkers & Talkers on Tuesday 18 March. Mark will share fascinating stories from his time in professional football, including tales from the early years of the Premier League and encounters with figures such as Mohamed Al Fayed, Ray Wilkins, Chris Coleman, and Barry Lloyd.

During his playing career, Walton made 48 appearances for Cardiff City between 2000 and 2003, along with a spell at Wrexham in 1993. With over 250 professional first-team games for clubs including Brighton, Fulham, Norwich, and Colchester, he brings a wealth of experience to the event. Now, as head of Glamorgan’s junior academy, Walton plays a key role in developing young talent while supporting senior players.

On the 8 May, Walkers & Talkers welcomes Hugh Morris MBE, a name synonymous with Glamorgan and English cricket. Morris played three matches for England, captained Glamorgan to victory in the 1993 Sunday League Cup, and was a key part of the club’s 1997 County Championship-winning team.

Beyond his playing career, Morris had a significant impact on English cricket, serving in senior roles at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), including as Managing Director of England Cricket. His leadership was instrumental in shaping England’s international success, and in 2022, he was awarded an MBE for his services to the sport.

Each session involves a gentle ramble (optional), a cuppa and an interesting visiting speaker all free of charge. The event starts at 10am and runs until midday, with coffee available from 9.30am.
