Walking in the Valleys for Young Cricketers initiative aims at raising money for the junior sections of the cricket clubs based in and across in South Wales.
Clubs across the region walked over 50 miles from the valleys to Sophia Gardens across four days to raise money for their efforts, which will be used for the junior sections of the clubs in buying cricket gear, equipment, kit and upgrade practice facilities to further the growth of the next generation of cricketers across the region.
Porth Cricket Club, Upper Rhondda Cricket Club, Mountain Ash Cricket Club, Hopkinstown Cricket Club, Cardiff Cricket Club, Blackwood Town Cricket Club, Pontypridd Cricket Club, Machen Cricket Club, Abercynon Cricket Club and Radyr Cricket Club were the clubs to take part in the 4-day walk, which ended at Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground just before lunch on Day 1 of the pre-season friendly between Glamorgan and Cardiff UCCE.
The walkers then walked a lap of the ground before coming into the field during the lunch break to capture a photograph to mark the end of an outstanding effort to raise funds for the development of future cricketers.
