Both Welsh Fire Women’s and Mens’s are flying high in the 2023 edition of The Hundred, sitting first and third in the table respectively.
The Women are unbeaten in the competition ahead of today’s fixture against Southern Brave, with South-African seam sensation Shabnim Ismail producing some incredible spells, including a hat-trick last time out against Birmingham Phoenix.
Pakistani quicks Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf have been fantastic additions to Mike Hussey’s squad. They will play their final two games at Sophia Gardens today and Monday, before returning to the International team.
They will be replaced by Kiwi quicks Lochie Ferguson and Matt Henry, the latter the top-wicket taker in the 2023 Vitality Blast as he helped Somerset win the competition.
England’s Jonny Bairstow will also make a triumphant return to Wales this afternoon after missing last year’s competition with injury. The wicket-keeper batter is in contention to play after the enthralling Ashes battle this summer.
