Glamorgan were defeated by 51 runs by Essex Eagles at Sophia Gardens in the Vitality Blast.
Despite Ruaidhri Smith taking a double wicket maiden and finishing with figures of 3/33, Essex set a total of 226/9 in the first innings.
Kiran Carlson, Sam Northeast and Colin Ingram all scored scores of 40+ but the Welsh county fell far short of the victory target.
"We conceded too many runs, it's as simple as that", said Carlson.
"We're going to be quite honest with ourselves as a bowling unit and a fielding unit, there's obviously just something not going quite right that we're going to try to fix.
"It was probably about a 200-par wicket and I think if we were chasing 200, we would have probably got over the line".
