Despite Glamorgan running out of time in their pursuit of a second pre-season friendly victory today, finishing 31-runs short of the target, captain Jacques Rudolph saw plenty of positives.
In an enjoyable encounter against first division opponents Somerset, Glamorgan finished the game in the ascendancy as the match neared its conclusion, after bowling out their opponents for 188 in the second innings.
However, the run chase failed to gather significant pace and when Bragg departed for 84 late on, any hopes of victory went as well as Somerset's bowlers did their best to restrict run scoring.
After the match Jacques Rudolph was content enough with his sides exploits in the match and preparations ahead of the new season
All in all it ended up being a very good game and one we nearly won so there's plenty of positives, said Rudolph.
One of the key things for us was our bowlers got a few spells, both Wagg (5-50) and Meschede (3-39) bowled quite a bit, they did really well taking wickets and got through quite a lot of work today.
From a batting point of view I was impressed with James Kettleborough (100*) and Will Bragg's (84) batting performances. Most of the batters are looking in good nick even if scores don't show that.
The guys know where they are with their games and we've still got 2 ½ weeks to go before the first Championship game.
Somerset's team here included quite a few of their first team bowlers which was good for our batters to play against because at the end of the day they do play in the First Division and that's where we aspire to get to.
It is pre-season and you can't expect guys to perform miracles, the biggest thing is for the guys to know where they are with their games and how they are preparing in the lead up to the first match.
A high percentage of the team have got a lot of confidence with the way we are playing and as long as we sustain that and don't get complacent then I definitely think we are heading in the right direction.
I'm happy and the vibe on and off the field is excellent.
