Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that opening batters Eddie Byrom and Will Smale have put pen to paper on contract extensions for a further two seasons.
Eddie Byrom featured in every game of the Metro Bank One-Day this season. He top-scored with a 94 at Gloucestershire, followed by some powerful knocks up the order; consistently scoring at a high strike rate.
Eddie also featured in the opening five games of our 2024 Metro Bank One-Day Cup-winning campaign, until injury ruled him out of the competition. His contribution included a sensational 123 not out against Notts Outlaws at Neath, as Glamorgan completed a steep run-chase.
Will Smale has had yet another successful white-ball year for the Club, as the right-handed batter played in all Vitality Blast and Metro Bank One-Day Cup games. Often providing Glamorgan with an explosive start in the T20 competition, Smale’s ability to clear the inner ring and dominate the bowling during Powerplay overs stands out.
Transitioning to the middle-order for the 50-over competition, Newport born Will had a successful campaign batting at number five. Of note, he scored a century at the Kia Oval against Surrey and an 83 not out against Leicestershire Foxes to win the game for Glamorgan, who were chasing 275 after being 106-3.
Smale also kept wickets after Alex Horton’s injury at the half-way point of the One-Day Cup, as he did in the entirety of the winning campaign the season before.
Speaking on the contract extension of the two players, Glamorgan's Director of Cricket Mark Wallace said: “Will has shown over the last few years his ability to influence games in white ball cricket with the bat and behind the stumps.
“He scored an excellent maiden Hundred in the 50 over competition this year and we look forward to pushing for a place in the first team across all formats in the coming years.
“Eddie has been a consistent performer since joining from Somerset and though he hasn’t played as much first team cricket as he would have like this season, adds a huge amount to our batting unit.”
