Will Smale excited to be back in training

Will Smale signed his first professional contract with the Club earlier this year after impressing when he made his debut in Vitality Blast at the top of the order.

The young right-handed batter is an exciting talent, who can also keep wicket, and is keen to push for a permanent first-team role in all formats.

We caught up with Will, and he spoke about how he has enjoyed his incorporation into the full-time staff.

“It has been really good, the boys have been brilliant. It has been about five weeks that we have been back now and training is going well. There is a lot of fitness stuff this side of Christmas, and then we start to ramp up the intensity the other side in the New Year with cricket skills.

“It is amazing to be back and to be involved, and I’m looking forward to 2024. It is a really nice place to be, now having that option to come in and train all the time and have that support network around you.

“Using the facilities is great and we are very lucky to have them here in Cardiff. I am really enjoying being able to call cricket my job, especially just coming out of University.

“As it is my first Winter with the Club, it is important for me to try and push my skills on, develop, and force my way into the First Team next year in red-ball and white-ball cricket.

“I finished the season in the T20 side, so I will try to maintain my place in that and see where I can get to in the red-ball stuff. It is an exciting time. We have a strong group of players and everyone is pushing each other for places which is great.”
