Worcestershire v Glamorgan: Head-to-Head

12 Aug 2016 | Cricket
Glamorgan head to Worcester for their next contest in the Specsavers County Championship with the four-day match getting under way at the New Road ground at 11a.m. on Saturday, August 13th.

After the razzamatazz and pyrotechnics associated with the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final against the Yorkshire Vikings, Glamorgan’s players return to red-ball action in the tranquil and picturesque surroundings of New Road. The Welsh county’s most recent Championship match at Worcester was in the first week of July 2014 when the home side won by 249 runs after a century from Tom Fell, plus a twelve-wicket match-haul from Saeed Ajmal, the Pakistani spinner.

Moeen Ali had been the star of the show for Worcestershire in 2013 when the two sides met at New Road, with the England batsman posting a superb 250, with his efforts helping Worcestershire to enforce the follow-on as they bowled out Glamorgan twice before easing to an eight-wicket victory.

Glamorgan’s most recent victory at New Road came in April 2010, with the Welsh county overwhelming Worcestershire by nine wickets after David Harrison had taken 7/45 in their first innings and James Harris claimed 5/56 in their second innings.

The two sides have already met this summer in the County Championship at the SSE SWALEC in the second week of May. But the weather intervened after Worcestershire declared on 456-6, with Brett D’Oliveira posting a career-best 202* .Glamorgan then slipped to 42-4 before the final two days were washed out, leaving the match drawn.
