Worcestershire v Glamorgan: Head-to-Head in the Royal London Cup

21 Aug 2022 | Cricket

Glamorgan travel to New Road on Tuesday, 23 August for their final group in Royal London Cup still with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages as they meet the Worcestershire Rapids in the Royal London Cup with the 50-overs contest scheduled to get underway at 1100. (writes Andrew Hignell)

The Rapids cannot qualify for the final stages of the Cup, but Glamorgan can reach the knockout stages if, firstly, they win at New Road and improve their net run rate and, secondly, Kent lose to Lancashire at Canterbury as well as Yorkshire losing against Hampshire at Scarborough with the Vikings also ending up with an inferior net run rate to the Welsh county’s.

As the list below shows of games at Worcester’s headquarters against Glamorgan in List A cricket, this will be Glamorgan’s first visit to the New Road ground since August 2010.

2 Sept 2001 at Worcester - Match Abandoned
4 Aug 2002 at Worcester – Glamorgan won by 22 runs
29 July 2003 at Worcester - Worcestershire won by 3 runs
17 July 2005 at Worcester - Glamorgan won by 5 wickets
5 May 2008 at Worcester – Worcestershire won by 7 wickets
22 August 2010 at Worcester - Worcestershire won by 178 runs

In their most recent encounter in List A games at New Road in 2010, Worcestershire were the emphatic winners as Moeen Ali posted a high-class century before Shakib-al-Hasan, the Bangladeshi all-rounder claimed 4/31.

Glamorgan’s most recent List A victory at Worcester came during July 2005 after Vikram Solanki had made a polished half-century with the Rapids captain adding 91 for the first wicket with Stephen Moore who went on to post his maiden one-day hundred. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent a Glamorgan victory as half centuries from Michael Powell, David Hemp and Sourav Ganguly saw the Welsh county to their target of 274, and all with an over to spare.
