Glamorgan round off their 2020 season with a visit to New Road to meet the Worcestershire Rapids in their final group match of the Vitality Blast competition, with the T20 game scheduled to get underway on Sunday 20 September at 1.00pm. (writes Andrew Hignell)
Glamorgan remain in fifth place after their handsome defeat of group leaders Gloucestershire on Friday evening under the Cardiff floodlights with the Rapids at the bottom of the group table having won just two of their nine matches. The group match between the two teams at Cardiff earlier this summer on 27 August was washed out without a ball being bowled, so the last time the two teams took to the field against each other in a T20 match was at Sophia Gardens during July 2013, with Glamorgan winning by five wickets.
A month before, during June 2013, the two teams had met at New Road with Glamorgan securing a comprehensive victory by 58 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method after Chris Cooke had blasted fifty from just 23 balls, - at the time the second-fastest for the Club in the competition – whilst Graham Wagg had taken 5/14 to break Ryan Watkins’ previous best of 5-16 as the effervescent all-rounder recorded the best-ever bowling figures for Glamorgan in Twenty20 cricket.
This win at Worcester during 2013 is one of three victories which the Welsh county have recorded in T20 games at New Road, with the first occurring during their inaugural game in July 2004 as Glamorgan won by twenty runs. The second came during June 2008 by six wickets thanks to quick-fire innings by Jamie Dalrymple who struck 38 off 24 balls, as well as Mark Wallace who blasted 26 from just 10 deliveries to see their side to their target with seven balls remaining and also clinch a place in the quarter-finals following the expulsion of Yorkshire from the competition for fielding an unregistered player..
