Glamorgan took two late wickets to peg Worcestershire back to 98/2 at the end of Day 3 after Billy Root's 118 led Glamorgan to 374 all out, with the left-hander believing he adapted to the situation at hand and that his team-mate, Graham Wagg, 'produced a great knock' for his side.
Root's third first-class century for the Club, and his fifth in his career, came against some difficult seam bowling from a strong attack that had just run through the Glamorgan middle order, and Root revealed he was proud of his knock in the circumstances.
“We were a long way behind in the game at the start of the day and Waggy stressed there was still a lot of work to do and he produced a great knock.
“It was a tough opening hour for us. They came out with some good plans and executed them pretty well and, as attritional as it was, I just felt I had to stay there and thankfully Waggy came out and played the way he did.
“That took a lot of pressure off me. It was not usually how I play but you’ve got to adapt to situations and I managed to do that.
With the hosts 179 ahead with a day to play, talk of a declaration was on the cards in the post-match interviews and Root admits that if the right sort of target is set then Glamorgan could have a go.
“It could potentially be a really good game of cricket tomorrow. There is a bit of turn and, depending how they go about it tomorrow, they could set us something and it could be a really interesting last day.
“I think they will have a go and, depending on how generous the declaration is, I’m sure we will have a go at chasing it.”
