Andy Balbirnie must have made a good impression as overseas player for Glamorgan in the 2020 Vitality Blast, as he was signed again as cover for Marnus Labuschagne in the early rounds of the 2021 County Championship campaign.

During the 2020 Vitality Blast, the Ireland Test and ODI captain top-scored for Glamorgan with 255 runs in nine innings, with a top score of 99* against Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens on September 18th (the first Glamorgan player to score 99, out or not out, in T20 cricket).

Balbirnie arrives again at Sophia Gardens with three Test caps to his name, and with a top score of 82 against Afghanistan in Dehradun, and in his most recent Test the right-handed batsman recorded a half-century at Lord's against England in July 2019. The top-order strokemaker has also previously played for Cardiff MCCU, alongside Andrew Salter and Jack Leach, and for Middlesex, and has featured in 75 ODIs, with six centuries and 10 other scores of 50+, as well as 43 IT20s with four half-centuries.
