Billy Root, the younger brother of England captain Joe, has joined Glamorgan Cricket for 2019 on a two-year contract.
Root made an instant impact on debut, scoring a century against Northants at Sophia Gardens. He went one better in the return fixture at Wantage Road as he compiled a massive 229 in an innings victory. He finished as the club's top run scorer in the Royal London One-Day Cup, hitting a century against Surrey and a 98 at Bristol against Gloucestershire.
Root added another century against Worcestershire in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy, and finished as Glamorgan's second highest run scorer in the format.
A product of the Yorkshire Academy, Billy has played for Nottinghamshire since 2015 with the 26 year-old averaging over 30 with the bat across all three formats.
His playing record includes 107 in a List A game against Warwickshire at Edgbaston during 2016 plus a pair of first-class centuries against Sussex, with his 132 alongside Chris Read during the final Championship game of 2017 helping the East Midlands team secure promotion into Division One.
Billy has also played for Leeds-Bradford MCCU between 2015 and 2016, as well as appearing for Suffolk from 2014 until 2015.
