Lukas Carey was one of several young Welsh cricketers to create a favourable impression for Glamorgan during 2016 and 2017, with the seam bowler from Pontarddulais becoming a potent performer with the new ball in Championship cricket
He has progressed from the Glamorgan Academy through Welsh age-group teams, the county’s 2nd XI and the Wales Minor County side, with Lukas currently on the radar of England’s fast bowling scouts.
Besides his penetrative new ball bowling, the right-arm seam bowler is a forceful lower-order batsman who struck a maiden Championship fifty during Glamorgan’s victory over Worcestershire at New Road in 2017.
Throughout 2019 Carey offered a consistent threat and demonstrated his control in the white-ball formats, with Glamorgan's best economy rate in the Royal London One-Day Cup. He also showed his increased ability with the bat, with two half-centuries, including a career-best 62 at Swansea, and nearly took the side to victory with 39 in the Royal London One-Day Cup against Somerset.
Carey was awarded a contract extension for 2021 and 2022 and will be looking to cement himself in the attack in all formats.
