The venues for all Glamorgan’s fixtures in the 2022 domestic season have now been confirmed. The fixtures were announced last week but with three of the locations originally listed as TBC.
Our LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire on Monday, 11th July and Royal London Cup games against Kent (4th August) and Yorkshire (10th August) will be held at Sophia Gardens.
Head of operations, Dan Cherry, said: “We’re pleased to confirm the full details of our 2022 fixture list, which will see more cricket played in Cardiff at the height of summer across July and August.
“It’s exciting to start the defence of our Royal London Cup title at Sophia Gardens before we return to The Gnoll, Neath for the first time since 1995.
“Unfortunately, this season we will be unable to fulfil our annual fixture in North Wales.
“The operational and financial challenges to host cricket at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club could not be met by either party in 2022.
“We remain committed to playing out-ground cricket and taking the game across Wales and discussions are already in place with our partners in North Wales to begin planning a return next year.”
Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Events, Cllr Louise Emery said “The events industry have been particularly hard hit as a result of the pandemic and whilst we’re disappointed that the Glamorgan Cricket Festival cannot go ahead in north Wales in 2022, we are ready to begin planning for bringing it back in 2023”.
