Glamorgan's T20 Captain Jim Allenby is back in Wales after a memorable summer for him on and off the pitch and now he cant wait to get the new season started.
It's been a brilliant summer in Australia for me, I enjoyed being involved in an Ashes match, getting married and enjoying the summer.
I hadn't played at the WACA much before, so to be involved in the game in against a full England side was special.
I played club cricket through the summer. The standard of cricket I play back in Australia is a better standard than it sounds as club cricket and I get to experience not just playing but coaching, captaining or whatever else. We play at a high standard when I'm in back in Australia, and I certainly come back a better play each year.
I met with Toby for the first time this week, having spoke over the phone and email. He seems very organised and the feedback from the other players is that they've worked hard on areas they need to. The players all seem fresh and strong, and technically we look as good as we've been for a few years now so we're doing the right things.
It makes a massive difference playing on grass. Talking to the other players they've pretty much had enough of the indoor hall, and I've only been back a couple of days and have had enough already, so despite the fact its rained here today, we're out playing on turf which you cant replicate indoors.
With this facility we are at a huge advantage over other teams, and I'm not sure exactly but think we're the first side out on grass. I had an extra ten days in this grass facility under the marquee last year rather than going overseas with the rest of the squad, and it helped me enormously.
The T20 Blast is a different concept this year, with more Friday nights so to be put in charge of trying to win games is huge for me.
I'll bring a few fresh ideas, but pretty much it's about playing the type of cricket I know works and that people want to watch being played.
I'm massive on that, it's not just about winning but its got to be worth watching otherwise no one will come which goes against what T20 Blast is about, which is to entertain people and bring new people into cricket.
I'm fully behind that, as soon as T20 came out 10 years ago, I bought into that and you can see the effect it's had on cricket around the world, we get so many more people watching now of all ages and backgrounds, so I'm really committed to helping us win but making it entertaining too so we make Glamorgan as accessible to as many Welsh people as possible.
We had a good start last year, and I know Toby and I will find out from as many people as possible why things didn't finish as we'd like, I have my own ideas which I will bring into the campaign, but our planning and organisation will be key in the build up.
What we did well for the first half of T20 last year, we didn't do for the second half, so we've got the experience of last year to draw upon and it's going to mean working hard like it's the first game of the tournament for the full 14 games.
That comes from preparation and getting the pre-game stuff right and the match will take care of itself one way or another.
