The significance of Saturday’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup Semi-Final is by no means lost on Glamorgan Vice-Captain, Bethan Gammon.
And having already reached the same stage in the Vitality Blast this year, the first year success of the Glamorgan Women’s Team is of no surprise to those who have seen the talent, workrate and grit shown from Rachel Priest’s squad.
Full attention is now firmly placed on Northamptonshire Steelbacks, who stand in the way of the Final next Saturday, against Yorkshire or Middlesex. Closely matched to Glamorgan in the competition, it's set to be a tough encounter that could likely go the distance.
“This Saturday will be a really proud moment for the team, reaching our second semi-final in the season,” Bethan told us on Friday. “Having the opportunity to play the semi-final at Sophia Gardens, in front of a home crowd, makes the day even more special.
“We know that teams within this competition are of a high standard - and Northants are no different. It’ll hopefully result a great day of cricket.
“Unfortunately, the rain got the better of us last weekend, but it was a fantastic display by the bowlers once again this season. Throughout the competition the bowling group have been a huge strength within our performances and to see different individuals stepping up at key moments has been really pleasing.
“Having the opportunity to play regular fixtures against high quality opponents, experience county grounds and receive year-round coaching and support from the club has been fantastic.
“It’s allowed us to continue developing as a team and as individuals. Hopefully, we can take a lot of learnings from all these experiences and continue to build on what has been a fantastic first season for Glamorgan Women.”
All support is appreciated.
