Cricket Family urged to show support for John Derrick

Glamorgan CCC, Cricket Wales and The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) are urging the cricket family in Wales and all its supporters to unite and show their support for John Derrick after today launching a fundraising initiative to help the former Glamorgan player and coach, and current Cricket Wales Performance Manager.

Now home, John Derrick underwent an operation to remove a brain tumour, and is receiving ongoing treatment.

Since August, the reaction of the cricket family in Wales and further afield has been remarkable. Glamorgan Cricket, Cricket Wales and the PCA have been inundated on social media with messages of goodwill and support.

Glamorgan CCC and Cricket Wales have now joined forces with the PCA to ensure valuable funds can be raised to help and support John as he continues his recovery.

A Fundraising Dinner is being held at The SSE SWALEC on Thursday 8th December with all proceeds going to help John in his recovery. Tickets are £45 per head with the evening consisting of a three-course sit-down meal and entertainment from former England player and the first National Selector of ECB, Geoff Miller OBE, one of the best after-dinner speakers in the country.

Former Glamorgan batsman Mike Powell, who now works for Thomas Carroll, great supporters of grassroots cricket, along with current Glamorgan player Mark Wallace are helping co-ordinate the fundraising dinner.
Anyone who wishes to book their place direct should contact Holly Littleton at Glamorgan CCC on 02920 419320 or holly.littleton@glamorgancricket.co.uk. Alternatively donations can be made online at www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/pcabenevolent/JohnDerrickDinner or by sending cheques to Glamorgan CCC made payable to the 'PCA Benevolent Fund' and marked 'for John Derrick'.

Glamorgan CCC, Cricket Wales and the family of John Derrick would like to thank all the well-wishers for the many messages of support they have so regularly received.
