Glamorgan finally broke down the defences of Lancashire on Day Two as Glamorgan continue to attempt to sign off a successful season with a win.
Report by Harry Wilcox
Just shy of the half hour mark on Day two, Jennings is judged to be out lbw off the bowling of Timm Van Der Gugten for 49 as Glamorgan picked up their first wicket of the innings. Lancashire only lost one more wicket in the morning session when Josh Bohannon was cleanly bowled by Van De Gugten for a measly nine runs.
After lunch, Glamorgan were straight on the front foot when right-arm spinner Mason Crane sent wicketkeeper batter George Bell back to the pavilion after he was caught by Colin Ingram at slip. The hosts continued some decent bowling spells as Lancashire went in at the tea break six wickets down.
In the first half of the final session of the day, the lower order of the visitors collapsed when the remaining four wickets standing were lost in under four overs with Timm Van Der Gugten staring with the ball yet again for Glamorgan as he claims his first five-wicket haul of the season while passing 300 career wickets for Glamorgan as he ends the innings with impressive figures of 5 for 61.
Glamorgan came out to bat with 17 overs in the day to play as Zain Ul Hassan and Asa Tribe opened the batting for Glamorgan for the final time this season as the Welsh side trailed by 109 runs.
The pair batted defensively, trying to see out the remainder of the day, without making any irrational mistakes in an already tight affair. However, George Balderson’s fourth delivery of the over slips through the legs of the young prodigy Asa Tribe as the Jerseyman is bowled for 25 as he ended his standout campaign much sooner than he had maybe hoped.
As close of play approached, James Harris was called in as nightwatchman for the South Wales outfit and joined Ul Hassan at the crease, but he was judged to be in line with the stumps and was dismissed lbw of Jack Blatherwick’s bowling for a duck.
The next man in for Glamorgan was Sam Northeast for what will be the final time he comes into bat for the club as he is sent to end his four-year spell with the club as he moves onto pastures new.
Northeast and Ul Hasan managed to hold on for the remaining overs as Glamorgan end on 41 for 2 as they trail by 68 runs.
When questioned about the todays play, Timm Van Der Gugten said, “The wickets had got a little bit different as the game’s gone on, and I bowled well this morning and as the game has gone on and is quite nice to limit them (Lancashire) to a 100-run lead. Hopefully we can bat well tomorrow and set them a tricky chase.”
