Following a recruitment process, Glamorgan Cricket is delighted to announce that former Glamorgan batsman Gareth Rees has been appointed as a non-executive independent director to the Glamorgan Board.
Gareth played nearly two hundred matches for the club and scored over 7,500 First-Class runs before retiring from professional cricket in 2014.
He then joined Wales based insurance company, Admiral, where he is now Head of Start-up and Innovation Partnerships, leading their partnership strategy and engagement within the automotive industry and with start-up businesses.
The 34-year-old also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Bath and is a board member on Ballet Cymru, Wales’ leading ballet company.
Non-executive independent director, Gareth Rees, said: “It is a huge honour to have been invited to join the board at Glamorgan.
“It is a very exciting time for cricket with renewed interest and new competitions raising the profile of the game to levels not seen for a number of years. Glamorgan has a great deal of talent both on and off the field and the return of successful times on the field I believe is only around the corner.
“It is exciting to be once again involved at a club I hold dear to my heart and hopefully contribute to a successful and sustainable future for cricket in Wales.”
Chairman, Gareth Williams, said: “Gareth brings with him an impressive range of expertise and skills from both a cricket and commercial perspective.
“He enjoyed a successful cricket career and has already developed a strong background within the business industry.
"He also has a passion for the club and a commitment to helping Glamorgan achieve success on and off the field and will be a valuable asset to the board and play an integral part in shaping the future of the club.”
