Glamorgan welcome Gloucestershire to Sophia Gardens, Cardiff for their final home match in the LV=Insurance County Championship with the contest scheduled to start at 10.30am on Sunday, September 12th.
The Welsh county were victorious the last time the two counties met in the County Championship – the game took place at Bristol during June 2019 with Marnus Labuschagne playing a match-winning innings of 82 as Glamorgan successfully chased a target of 188 in 49 overs on the final afternoon. The match earlier in the season at Spytty Park in Newport had also seen the Australian score a century, with Nick Selman also making 150 as Glamorgan fought back after being invited to follow-on before setting Gloucestershire a target of 269 in 51 overs and reducing them to 137-6 as the contest ended in a draw.
Gloucestershire however were the victors at Cardiff in 2018 with Craig Miles – now with Warwickshire – taking eight wickets and Jack Taylor posting 112. The contest between the two teams in 2017 proved to be a high-scoring draw with Kiran Carlson scoring a superb 191 as he came within nine runs of being both the Club’s youngest centurion and double-centurion.
Kiran comes into this year’s game against Gloucestershire with 842 first-class runs to his name. He’s currently the sixth highest run-scorer in the County Championship and needs a further 158 runs to become the first Glamorgan batter since Marnus Labuschagne in July 2019 to score 1,000 runs in a season, as well as being the first homegrown player to reach this target since 2016 when both Aneurin Donald and Will Bragg reached 1,000 runs.
Andrew Salter is also on the cusp of a personal milestone following the match against Durham at Emirates Riverside had seen him come within ten runs of being the first Pembrokeshire-born player to score a Championship hundred for Glamorgan. Andrew currently has 99 wickets to his name in all first-class cricket, with 92 of these having come for the Welsh county.
