Glamorgan and Cricket Wales' Ramadan Tape Ball Tournament

The third edition of Glamorgan and Cricket Wales' Ramadan Tape Ball Cricket Tournament took place recently. The initiative, which aims to accommodate working adults' schedules during the holy month saw yet another successful year.

The Islamic lunar calendar's ninth month, Ramadan, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a time for fasting, introspection, almsgiving, and prayer. It's a season of increased reflection and cohesion within the community. During this period, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise until sunset.

The tape ball games were arranged late at night since the organisers understood the difficulties adults’ experience with work commitments and evening prayers during Ramadan. This allowed participants to enjoy cricket without sacrificing their religious obligations.

Four teams took part in the 7-overs indoor tape ball games, with a total of 24 participants. Each team played three group games before the final. For the participants, the fast-paced 7-over indoor tape ball style offered the ideal balance of competitiveness and friendship.

Mojeid Ilyas, Diverse Communities Development Officer at Cricket Wales, said "The tournament is something that participants enjoy each year and a real sign of Cricket Wales & Glamorgan’s continued commitment to growing the community game and negating any possible barriers to accessing the sport."
