Glamorgan Cricket Accredited by Investors in Diversity

Glamorgan Cricket is proud to announce that they have been officially accredited by the National Centre for Diversity as achieving an ‘Investors in Diversity’ Award.

In March 2022, building on our existing strategy, Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket combined to create one Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) plan for Cricket in Wales.  The mission was to “Transform cricket in Wales into a sport where everyone feels they are respected, belong and are treated fairly.”

That plan had three main areas: -

  • Ensuring that the Talent Pathway is fair and transparent.
  • Developing our staff.
  • Making sure everyone who attends or has a cricket experience feels at home and have a warm welcome whoever they are.

Over the last 12 months we have doubled down on our efforts to make our game the most diverse, inclusive and fair in Wales. This means minimising barriers, smashing perceptions and breaking stigmas and taking cricket to some of the most under-represented groups in terms of sports participation.

We’ve implemented a number of organisational changes that have been steered by our EDI sub-committee which reports into the board.  These include reviewing dressing room culture, player and coach education, aiding the progress of people from diverse backgrounds into pathways and professional teams and delivering actions to ensure Sophia Gardens is accessible and welcoming to all.

The National Centre for Diversity has now given its UK Full accreditation to Glamorgan Cricket’s EDI work. They said: “Glamorgan CCC achieved the IiD conditional award in the summer of 2022. This demonstrates the positive work that the organisation is undertaking.

“The current Investors in Diversity accreditation journey began in 2021, culminating in the full Investors in Diversity accreditation in January 2023.

“Glamorgan County Cricket Club have been great to work with and did an excellent job in coordinating the individual interviews and focus group discussion, as well as collating the evidence documentation, which has been very comprehensive. A mention also to Hugh Morris MBE (Glamorgan Cricket CEO) for providing the leadership that is needed to ensure successful implementation of the Investors in Diversity principles”

This in addition to receiving a recent commendation from the ECB as a “Leading Organization” in terms of EDI.

Mark Frost, the community and development manager for both Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales, said “We are really pleased with the commendation from the respected UK centre on Diversity and Inclusion. We have a lot more to do but are greatly encouraged to have this independent thumbs up about our commitment to making anyone who plays, watches or enjoys the experience at Sophia Gardens feel at home and be sure of a warm Welsh welcome.”

Glamorgan Cricket continue to embrace our diverse fanbase and are constantly looking for ways to engage and improve relationships to make Sophia Gardens the most welcoming destination for all supporters.  This was most recently demonstrated with the listening groups we ran to take feedback from supporters on how we can improve our offering to cater and appeal to them.
