Glamorgan Masters Team to play Bridgend Town

21 Aug 2015 | Cricket
Some of the great names in the recent history of Glamorgan CCC will be taking to the cricket field again as a Glamorgan Masters XI meets Bridgend Town CC in a 20 overs match on Sunday, September 6th starting at 1.30pm.
The idea to form a Glamorgan Masters team has been the brainchild of former Glamorgan players Ian Thomas and Michael Powell. The pair floated the idea at the annual get-together of the Glamorgan Former Players Association at the SSE SWALEC in June, and with warm support from their former county colleagues, the outcome is an inaugural match for a Glamorgan Masters XI on September 6th against Bridgend Town whose current captain is Andrew Davies, the Club's former bowler.

The response to our idea has been really positive from both the Glamorgan Former Players Association and by the Club itself, said Thomas, who now works as a Personal Development Manager for the Professional Cricketers Association. Several other counties have formed Masters XI's so the game at Bridgend will allow us to pilot this concept.

Hopefully, it can become a once a year event besides giving the former players another chance to meet up, besides act as ambassadors for Glamorgan County Cricket Club, besides helping to raise valuable funds for good causes

In the case of this year's contest against Bridgend Town, money will be raised towards the Glamorgan Academy tour to the Middle East in December, besides helping the Bridgend club to celebrate their 175th year. Members of the Glamorgan Academy players will also be present on the day to sell raffle tickets in aid of the tour.
