Glamorgan stars Club Together for Cricket

Andrew Salter and Ruaidhri Smith will be supporting the Professional Cricketers’ Trust via the charity’s Club Together for Cricket campaign throughout the 2021 domestic season and beyond.

The first team pair have both signed up to the initiative, which allows members of the public to donate to the Trust via the goalgiving platform for runs scored, wickets taken and catches claimed by fundraisers throughout the season.

The platform offers complete flexibility, allowing donors to choose how much they want to give for every action, put a cap on their fundraising and make a one-off donation to the Trust through goalgiving.

Signing up takes just a few minutes, and by completing this simple action you’ll go a long way to supporting professional cricketers and their immediate families in their times of need.

The Trust is one of professional cricket’s leading charities, offering life-changing - and often life-saving - support to Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) members and their immediate families when they need it most.

During a record-breaking 2020, the players’ charity supported 94 individuals in the area of mental health alone, bringing the total number since 2015 up to 426, and a further 20 cases were also supported in the area of hardship.

The Trust offers support ranging from emotional counselling right through to the provision of specialist medical equipment and more, therefore providing a vital support network for players in a sport where the average retirement age is still just 26.

A number of individuals associated with Glamorgan have a close relationship with the Trust, including ex-batsman Ian Thomas, who is now a Director of the players’ charity.

Head Coach Matthew Maynard has spoken publicly about the counselling support he and his family have received since the tragic death of his son Tom, whilst ex-players Keith Newell and Winston Davis have also told their own inspiring stories.

Christine Derrick, widow of Glamorgan legend John, has also illustrated how the Trust supports the immediate families of current and former professional cricketers with her own emotional account.

We would urge you to get behind this worthy cause, which is also being supported by over 50 domestic stars and nine England players, in order to help the game we love to thrive throughout 2021 and beyond.
