Glamorgan unchanged for semi-final clash

15 Aug 2021 | Cricket

Head coach David Harrison has named an unchanged 13-man squad for our Royal London Cup semi-final against Essex Eagles at Sophia Gardens tomorrow.

Glamorgan topped Group 2 on Thursday on net run rate to secure a home semi-final and skipper Kiran Carlson will lead the Welsh county in their first List A knockout match since 2013.

Essex Eagles on the other hand finished second in Group 1 and were forced to face Yorkshire Vikings in a quarter-final at Chelmsford yesterday. The Eagles came through the match comfortably, winning by 129 runs.

Batsman Nick Selman led the Welsh county's run scoring charts in the group stages with 338 runs at an average just under 49, while Michael Hogan and Joe Cooke took the most wickets with 14 each.

View from the camp – Kiran Carlson

"It's very exciting to play in a semi-final. It's obviously the first one for a lot of these boys but we're just all excited for the challenge and just looking forward to it.

"It's something that could make or break a very good season for the squad and it's a great opportunity for us.

"Essex pose a good challenge. They're a great team and got a couple of standout players who have done well for them in this year's competition but if we back ourselves and concentrate on what we do well then we can beat anyone on our day."

Head-to-head – Glamorgan v Essex Eagles

Glamorgan have won two of their last three matches against Essex at Sophia Gardens.

Glamorgan’s most recent victory over Essex at Sophia Gardens in May 2017 was a dramatic affair after Colin Ingram had struck an imperious 142 including three massive sixes in the penultimate over bowled by Ryan ten Doeschate as Essex conceded 87 runs in the last nine overs.
