Glamorgan welcomed over 350 members of Girlguiding from South Wales eagerly participated in a cricket taster session held at Sophia Gardens. The event, organised by Welsh Fire ahead of The Hundred tournament this summer.

The young girls, including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers from Girlguiding Cymru, were coached by Welsh Fire stars Claire Nicholas and Alex Griffiths.
On a sunny afternoon at the home of Welsh Fire, the girls enjoyed a series of engaging batting, bowling, and fielding drills, aiming to ignite a passion for the sport among a new generation of girls.
Alex Griffiths, an all-rounder for Welsh Fire, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "We are dedicated to expanding the game in Wales, and we're making significant progress. With 400 children present today, if they have the opportunity to watch England Women players on this pitch, I believe it will be a genuine inspiration for them."
Becky Thomas, the Women's and Girls' Development Officer, remarked, "It was truly remarkable to witness numerous Girlguiding members enthusiastically participating in the cricket taster session at Sophia Gardens as part of their cricket challenge pack. Equally encouraging was the sight of numerous leaders actively engaging their girls in a new sport, equipping them with skills and confidence to explore new activities."
Lisa Edwards expressed her delight, stating, "It was absolutely fantastic to see more than 350 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers at the cricket event at Sophia Gardens. The event's success is a testament to the hard work put in by all those involved and signifies the increasing popularity of cricket among girls in Wales."
Ranger Amelia highlighted the exciting aspects of cricket, stating, "Cricket offers an exhilarating range of running and batting. It's a truly hands-on and inclusive sport where everyone has a wonderful time. We are delighted to be a part of this event and being in the company of numerous Girlguides across different age groups emphasizes the sport's inclusivity."
