Glamorgan Win ECB Award for Community Project

Glamorgan were presented with the ECB Community Engagement Award last night as winners at this year's Business of Cricket Awards, staged in London, for their partnership with Cricket Wales to deliver the Cricket Beyond Boundaries project.

The 'Cricket Beyond Boundaries' project aims to make cricket more accessible for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in Cardiff and create a thriving BME Cricket network capable of increasing and sustaining participation in cricket. Focusing upon young people aged 13 - 25 a range of activities are provided including doorstep clubs, indoor cricket and mid-week cricket.

The Cricket Beyond Boundaries project has already received commendation at the Asian Cricket Awards earlier this year, winning the Diversity Award for the combined efforts of Glamorgan and Cricket Wales in bringing structured and unstructured cricket to areas of Cardiff without cricket facilities.

However being honoured again last night was further recognition for the pioneering project which harnesses the input of a variety of community groups and funding by the Sport Wales Calls4Action fund. The scheme's partners include; Cricket Wales, Glamorgan Cricket, Wales Tamil Sangham Group, Oasis Cardiff, Cage 4 All, Sport Cardiff Met, Welsh Asians CC, Cardiff Gymkhana CC, Street Games, Cardiff BME Sport Forum.

The Business of Cricket Awards which celebrate excellence across the county game also recognised the efforts of Lancashire, Kent, Nottinghamshire, Sussex, Warwickshire, whilst Surrey's George Foster was also honoured

ECB's Chief Executive Officer, Tom Harrison, said: The BOCA awards are all about recognising and rewarding the innovative ways in which together we bring cricket to a wider audience, and the breadth and quality of this year's entries was truly impressive.

2015 was a record-breaking year for county cricket with attendances rising in all three county competitions; an important milestone which owes much to the hard work and dedication of all those working behind the scenes across our domestic game.

As always, our judging panel were given the unenviable task of picking the winners from an outstanding pool of nominees. We thank them for their efforts and warmly congratulate all our winners on their achievements.

Last night's awards ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in London also included presentations of the County Cricket Journalism Awards. The winners were: The Journal and Sunday Sun - Regional Newspaper of the Year; National Newspaper of the Year - The Times; Online Publication of the Year - ESPN CricInfo; Christopher Martin-Jenkins Young Journalist of the Year - Tim Wigmore and Christopher Martin-Jenkins County Broadcaster of the Year - Clive Eakin.
