Glamorgan's best winning sequences

29 Jun 2015 | Cricket
Glamorgan's victory last Thursday against Leicestershire at the SSE SWALEC equalled the Club's record for the number of successive victories in the LV=County Championship during a season.
Glamorgan have won four matches in a row on seven previous occasions:

June/July1946 - beat Leicestershire by 188 runs; beat Worcestershire by 85 runs; beat Gloucestershire by 8 wickets; beat Hampshire by 7 wickets.

June 1948 - beat Kent by an innings and 63 runs; beat Hampshire by 70 runs; beat Kent by 278 runs; beat Essex by an innings and 130 runs.

June 1949 - beat Somerset by 115 runs; beat Kent by 10 wickets; beat Essex by 9 wickets; beat Northamptonshire by 6 wickets.

June 1959 - beat Sussex by 4 wickets; beat Northamptonshire by 5 wickets; beat Lancashire by 122 runs; beat Gloucestershire by 119 runs.

July 1968 - beat Somerset by 9 wickets; beat Northamptonshire by 88 runs; beat Warwickshire by 30 runs; beat Sussex by an innings and 7 runs.

June/July 2000 - beat Worcestershire by 81 runs; beat Northamptonshire by 144 runs; beat Middlesex by 2 wickets; beat Northamptonshire by 5 wickets.

May/June 2004 - beat Durham by 201 runs; beat Derbyshire by 128 runs; beat Somerset by 7 wickets; beat Leicestershire by 409 runs.

Whilst their victory equals the Club record in first-class cricket, it is some way from their best sequence in all forms of cricket, with the Glamorgan side of 1993 having won a dozen one-day games under the captaincy of Hugh Morris, now the Club's Chief Executive. The team of 2015, who remain unbeaten in first-class cricket this summer, are also a long way from emulating the achievements of their counterparts in 1969 and 1970 who went 29 games without defeat. However, a victory next week against Derbyshire at Chesterfield would create a new Club record of five consecutive victories in the County Championship.
