Glamorgan’s one-wicket defeat against Sussex at Colwyn Bay yesterday in the Specsavers County Championship was their narrowest by a wickets margin in a first-class match for 44 years.
Their previous one-wicket defeat had come against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 1973, and in all, it was only the ninth time which they had lost by this slender margin in a first-class match. For the record, the other one-wicket defeats have been:
by Gloucestershire at Bristol, 1936
by Worcestershire at Stourbridge, 1939
by Essex at Westcliff, 1952
by Middlesex at Cardiff Arms Park, 1955
by Kent at Dartford, 1959
by Yorkshire at Bradford, 1960
by Leicestershire at Grace Road, 1961
by Gloucestershire at Bristol, 1973
