Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris has spoken today about the appointment of Robert Croft to the head coach role with the Welsh county as well as any further recruitment to the coaching set up and playing staff.
Rob was the outstanding candidate with a wealth of experience as a player, captain and an assistant coach here for the last three years. Most recently he's had coaching experience with England in South Africa too.
It is a step up to being Head Coach, he's the head honcho now when it comes to matters about the coaching and the dressing room, but I'm confident Rob's got the knowledge and experience to make that step up.
It is a balance. Technique is an important of coaching but I have always said great coaches don't coach technique they coach people.
Understanding the players you are working with your captain and senior players is something Robert will have to do and I am sure he will have the skills to do that very well.
We are weighing up our options. We are very lucky on our staff we have a number of good coaches who have been through the ECB system.
David Harrison and Steve Watkin are level four coaches and Mark Wallace is doing his level four course.
We have two experienced batsman in Colin Ingram and Jacques Rudolph who have roles to play in that department.
There was a lot of interest and we whittled it down to a shortlist who we interviewed. We believe Robert was the best candidate. The job was advertised far and wide and we had applicants from far and wide.
I would like to think Robert can take the next step after we made some progress in county championship cricket last summer.
We have got a good squad although it is not big. We have some good quality and added Timm Van Der Gugten to give us something we haven't got by bowling a ball at 90mph.
So we have made some good signings in the winter.
We are still looking at T20 cricket and that would bolster our squad. To have another overseas player to bolster our white ball cricket would be excellent.
There is a lot of cricket going on at the minute. The IPL is at the beginning of our T20 tournament and there is the Caribbean Premier League in June and July as well.
South Africa, West Indies and Australia are also playing a Tri-Nations tournament as well. So the pool we are picking from is not a massive one.
