Head coach Matt Maynard was 'very pleased' with his young batting charges after they held on to secure a battling draw against Warwickshire on the final day of their Bob Willis Trophy campaign.
"It was a great four days of cricket and it was very tough," said Maynard. "I'm delighted we hung on and fought the way we did.
"There were pleasing signs with such a young batting group led by Nick Selman. The way he played was very pleasing and Callum Taylor hung around for a good while and Dan Douwthaite showed some good defensive stuff in there as well, so I'm very pleased to come out of it with a draw at the end.
Asked where his side could improve next year in the County Championship, Maynard felt improvement was needed in all facets of the game but pinpointed the fielding which had resulted in a number of dropped catches throughout their red-ball campaign.
"We've been light on first innings runs throughout the competition. We've got to improve out catching and potentially our consistency with the ball.
"I think for five sessions in this game we were very good with the ball but the first session of the third day we weren't very good and obviously then they had a position where they could come hard at us. It's something we need to get slightly better at and that's great because we have a winter to work on it.
"The big one for me is we dropped 10 catches in five games in the slips. You put those catches on to the bowler's figures and it brings their averages down. That will be a massive work on for us this winter."
