Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad for the Vitality Blast fixture against Surrey today.
Ruaidhri Smith makes his first appearance in a 1st XI squad this season after a lengthy lay off with injury. He came through well for the 2nd XI last week, picking up 5/18 on his birthday against the MCCU Young Cricketers.
Dan Douthwaite also returns to the squad, with Shaun Marsh also returning. The elegant left-hander will be making his first appearance for the Welsh County in 13 months after a lengthy stint with the Australian National Team.
Marsh is himself returning from injury, after he suffered a fracture in his arm after being struck in the nets by compatriot Pat Cummins. Marsh was looking forward to getting back out on the field, and was excited to put the Daffodil back on.
“It’s good to be back” Marsh said.
“I had a few weeks off back home in Perth, so to be back here now and seeing all the boys here today has been a great feeling.
“Its been a little frustrating with injuries, but as I said before it is nice to be back here now and hopefully, I can get out there on Sunday and get some runs on the board.
“Hopefully we can get our season back on track with the T20’s, and I can get out there on Sunday and score some runs for the boys. Its just nice to be back playing and hopefully, I’ll be contributing to the team.
While Marsh will be playing the remainder of the Vitality Blast competition, he will also stay on to complete the remaining County Championship fixtures, where Glamorgan currently lie in 2nd place. Marsh had been keeping up to date, and was impressed with his teams form.
“It’s been great to see” said Marsh.
“The four-day cricket we have played this year has been outstanding, and we are well and truly in the competition. I’m looking forward to getting out there against Lancashire next week and hopefully helping the boys get another win.
“It’s a great position to be in. Obviously, we had a disappointing season last year so for the guys to bounce back the way they have has been fantastic to see and I’m looking forward to getting out there with them next week.
“It was great to see Marnus do well, he is a fantastic young player. I was thrilled for him to come over here and do really well, and then push for selection in The Ashes as well, so it was great for him to get some runs.
“I’m looking forward to getting out here on Sunday and playing some really good cricket, and then moving into the four-day game next week. I will be ready to go and I’m looking forward to it.
“All the boys have been in really good spirits up there and they were looking forward to getting out and putting on a good show against Surrey.
